LABOUR PROTECTION AND LABOUR RELATIONS IN ASEAN: THE IMPACT OF PROTECTIVE LABOUR LAWS ON LABOUR RELATIONS

International Labour Organisation - Organizational Body;

One of the most important activities undertaken under the UNDP/ILO/ASEAN Programme on Industrial Relations for Development (RAS/81/033) was the ASEAN Tripartite Symposium on Labour Protection and Labour Relations held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 16-19 September 1986 with the Ministry of Labour of Malaysia as host.

The Symposium was organised to ascertain, as far as possible:

(a) The extent to which alleged violations of labour protection laws have contributed to the incidence of labour disputes;
(b) The adequacy or lack of adequacy of labour protection laws in the light of changing economic and social conditions;
(c) The effectiveness of dispute settlement procedures and machineries on "rights disputes";
(d) The possible approaches to reducing the incidence of "rights disputes" in the interest of industrial peace.
