SYSTEMS ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT: WITH STRUCTURED CONCEPTS

EDWARDS, PERRY - Personal Name;

The use of computers in our society is accelerating so rapidly we find ourselves in the midst of changes as dramatic as those generated by the Industrial Revolution in the nineteenth entury Computers no longer benefit just large corporations and government agencies, the so-called personal computers are invading our classrooms, homes, and local small businesses What does the revolution mean? in a word, it means change. And change brings with it new fields of study and new ways of getting work done. Prior to the computer, organizations processed data manually or mechanically. As a result, information often arrived too late to use it to enhance productivity and make profitable decisions. Even worse, manually generated information often contained the sort of errors that cause costly mistakes. Modern computers not only process data faster, but they do it with extreme accuracy, giving businesses more time to concentrate on sales or personnel problems.

This text will teach you to analyze the ways organizations process data so that you con better understand and improve those ways. In this first chapter, you will learn the basic concepts of systems analysis, design, and development, beginning with a definition of systems.
