FINANCIAL NETWORK SERVICES
The two chapters in this section set the scene for the rest of the book. They provide an introduction to financial network services, describe the range of services available and identify the most important strategic issues for network service suppliers and users. In the opening chapter Paul Todd provides an overview of the financial network services world and identifies the forces of change now transforming the marketplace. He classifies the diversity of services in the marketplace, developing a framework which shows how they relate to each other. The reader will be able to map specific services mentioned in later chapters of this book onto this general framework. Todd goes on to identify the key issues facing suppliers. Strategic planning is essential for the competitive and cost-effective use of network services. In the second chapter Jenny Clayton describes how financial institutions should develop strategic plans for network services, and identifies the ways to ensure expenditure on network services is cost-effective.
