THE SEVEN SECRETS OF INFLUENCE

ZUKER, ELAINA - Personal Name;

Influence. Everyone wants it. But how do you get it? Like the weather, influence is usually noticed only by its outcome. When you've changed someone's mind or opinion, you notice the change. But the methods or strategies you used are usually instinctive. You often aren't sure of ex- actly what you did that worked.

Since we generally aren't aware of how we influence other people, it's easy to believe that this ability is a mysterious gift or talent. You either have it, or you don't have it. Or, you may believe that influence is a privilege exercised only by those who already wield power. But anyone can have influence. Influence is a set of interpersonal skills that can be learned, practiced, and mastered.

When I became aware that people view influence as a desirable, but elusive, quality, I developed a unique method for identifying influence as a set of skills and began teaching it in a workshop setting. I've con- ducted hundreds of these workshops and through them have taught thousands of people how to perfect and hone their influence skills.

This book is the essence of the workshops. In it you will learn how to assess your own influence style and how to use a formula for influenc ing others in your professional and personal life. In this first chapter, I set the foundation by helping you discover what true influence is and what it isn't.
