ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS: AN INTRODUCTION
The fourth edition maintains the original structure of the book, but contains much new material. Almost all of the exhibits, and numerous tables, have been changed, and data tables and figures have been updated. Many new references have been added to reflect new research efforts by environmental economists over the last few years. Several chapters have had major rewrites. These include new material on pollution damages and uncertainty in Chapter 5; new material on valuing children's health in Chapter 7; new coverage on technological change and abatement costs in Chapter 8. Chapter 10 covers voluntary pro- grams for pollution control, and Chapter 11 has new material on the economics of enforcement. New information on the economics of emission-trading pro- grams is covered in Chapters 12 and 14. Chapter 14 also has updated material on the Safe Drinking Water Act. Chapter 15 covers new information on the SO₂ trading program and Chapter 16 includes new information on natural resources damage. Three topics have been updated in Chapter 17: the Endangered Species Act, environmental federalism, and wetlands preservation. Chapter 18 covers new information on the precautionary principle and the European Trad- ing Scheme. Finally, new and updated information on the Kyoto protocol is discussed at length in Chapter 20.
