Based on extensive interviews with bankers, this study represents the first in-depth exploration of the involvement of U. S. banks in the Third World debt crisis. The report analyzes the evolution of U. S. banks' strategies for dealing with the debt crisis & explores the extent to which the international economic environment & the U. S. banks' internal financial considerations led them to lend massively to developing countries in the 1970s & early 1980s.
