THE IMPACT OF POWER OUTAGES ON BUSINESS CONTINUITY, SOCIETY, AND EMPLOYEES: A CASE STUDY OF MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE (2018-2023)
This thesis investigates the notable effects of power disruptions on manufacturing enterprises in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. It seeks to comprehensively explore the repercussions of these interruptions on different sectors of the Zimbabwean economy, including manufacturing, services in Bulawayo, and agriculture. Through qualitative methods like surveys and interviews with business owners and stakeholders, the research seeks to uncover the specific challenges faced during power outages and how businesses cope with them. By examining factors like the duration and frequency of outages, as well as financial losses and operational disruptions, the study will provide insights into the economic consequences, including reduced productivity and competitiveness. Additionally, it will explore the strategies businesses use to navigate these challenges and sustain their operations. By examining how businesses, government policies, and the power sector interact, this thesis aims to offer valuable insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to devise effective strategies for enhancing the resilience of businesses and the economy in Zimbabwe. In essence, this study adds to the existing knowledge about how power outages impact businesses, especially within the Zimbabwean context. The results of this research will offer valuable insights for stakeholders and policymakers, highlighting the importance of ensuring a dependable and consistent electricity supply. This reliability is crucial for promoting sustainable economic growth and facilitating the growth of businesses within the nation.
